Making the NBA is perhaps the dream of every aspiring basketball player.
However, it takes a great number of skills and a bit of luck to make it to the big league. It’s not enough that you want to make it. You really have to work to get a crack at your NBA dream.
There’s a lot of factors that effect a prospect’s chances in making the NBA. And one of the more important factors that you should consider is choosing/getting discovered by the right high school.
It’s important to come to a great high school program where you can develop your skills and get noticed by college scouts. In terms of the best high schools in terms of realizing your NBA dreams.
If you’re wondering which about the level of NBA players this High School has produced, this is a starting five comprised of some of their alumnus:
*stats according to Wikipedia*
PG: Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo played only one year at Oak Hill in the 2003-2004 season. There he averaged 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 12 assist per game. Rondo eventually was recruited by Kentucky where he played for two years.
SG: Kevin Durant
Like Rondo, Kevin Durant only played for Oak Hill for one year, during his junior season. He transferred to Montrose Christian for his senior year and was later recruited to play for Texas in college.
SF: Carmelo Anthony
Melo probably was the reason why Oak Hill was so popular in the early 2000s. His first matchup versus LeBron and St. Vincent’s-St. Mary’s received so much hype for a high school basketball game. After graduating from Oak Hill, Carmelo was recruited by Syracuse where he won a championship in his freshman season.
PF: Michael Beasley
Beasley didn’t stay long with Oak Hill but he still counts as an alumnus in my book. Before he became a journeyman in NBA, he was a journeyman in High School (attended six different High Schools). B-Easy was actually a highly-touted recruit and he had one of the best freshman seasons in the NBA but he just can’t put it all together.
C/PF: Josh Smith
Smith only played for Oak Hill Academy in his senior year but he made a good impression. He averaged 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists during his lone year with the team. That was enough for NBA teams to notice him which allowed him to bypass college and get drafted out of high school.
Outside of these five players, Oak Hill has other notable alumni which includes: Ty Lawson, Brandon, Jennings, Rod Strickland, Quinn Cook, Steve Blake, and Stephen Jackson.
